2. Introduction
- Wound: A break in the skin or injury to soft tissue, classified as open (exposed tissue) or closed (no skin break).
- Goal of First Aid: Arrest bleeding, prevent infection, promote healing, and treat shock.
3. Definitions
- Wound: Disruption of skin integrity or soft tissue.
- Open Wound: Exposes underlying tissue (e.g., cuts, abrasions).
- Closed Wound: No skin break but internal damage (e.g., contusions).
